One can hardly imagine the logistics of such a massive event as the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ without volunteer support. It was not too long ago that the volunteer movement was something obscure and strange to most Russians. A series of major international events took place in Russia in recent years, which has raised awareness about volunteer activities and importance.

Lending crucial support in staging large events, radiating friendliness and energy, volunteers make the Cup a fantastic event that it is.

Thousands of people from all across Russia and other countries are participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Volunteer Programme and getting a one-of-the-kind opportunity to be part of the global event.

As one of eleven World Cup Host Cities, Nizhny Novgorod has been actively seeking, selecting, and training volunteers. December 2015 saw the opening of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Volunteer Center in the facilities of the Nizhny Novgorod State Lobachevsky University. The World Cup 2018 Volunteer Programme was officially launched on June 1, 2016.

Who is a World Cup volunteer? A volunteer is a cheerful and dynamic person, equipped with foreign languages and professional skills. A volunteer is willing to help others for free and is a people person.

Volunteering for the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ is more than an honour and great memories, it is a serious responsibility. Volunteers are at the forefront as the face of the Cup. For this reason, candidate volunteers have to meet certain requirements. For example, this includes such skills as team work, responsibility, self-confidence, foreign languages.

The FIFA World Cup 2018™ in Nizhny Novgorod will rely on 3,000 volunteers. Half of them are provided by the Local Organising Committee and the other half by the City Volunteer Training Centre. What is the difference? City volunteers will be mostly helping out at various city venues and facilities, whereas the LOC volunteers will be working directly with FIFA client groups at the World Cup facilities, including the stadium.
