Strelka Subway Station

Strelka Subway Station will be the 15th station of the Nizhny Novgorod Subway. Its construction is financed partly from the federal budget. Nizhny Novgorod and St. Petersburg are the only cities among the 11 host cities that have received financing for subway construction for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.

Construction works started in the first half of 2015, while in December a tunnel-boring machine was put into operation. Tunnels are approximately three kilometers long and at times 40 meters deep. Stations and crossings are also under construction.

The total length of the construction site including the subway station is 2449 meters. The new line capacity during peak hours is designed at 40 trains an hour in one direction. The carrying capacity is expected to reach 28,000 people in the rush hour. Subway trains in the new tunnels will travel at speeds of over 40 km/h.

Transport Infrastructure

The key project to be implemented while preparing for the FIFA World Cup™ is the reconstruction of the city motor road called the Molodezhny Prospekt. The project involves construction of a four-lane road 7.1 km long, three viaducts, a two-level interchange, reconstruction of utility lines and development of the adjacent territory. The distinctive feature of a new Molodezhny Prospekt is that the reconstructed road will meet all modern road safety requirements and will have proper pedestrian crossings, barriers and traffic lights made of modern and durable materials. High-quality bituminous surfacing is expected to last for more than 10 years. New sidewalks are designed along the motor road. One of the core issues is the arrangement of a storm-water runoff system currently unavailable there. Construction works shall not affect trees within the borders of the Avtozavodsky Park, as well as monuments of civil architecture in the Avtozavodsky District. The road is a crucial facility as it will help those arriving at the airport to get to the city in the shortest time possible. Upon delivery of this project, new interchanges are planned in the center of the Avtozavodsky District.

While preparing for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, some new roads will be built, the existing ones will bу extended, and pedestrian crossings will be better equipped in the vicinity of the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. Several parkings will be arranged in the area.

By the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, it is also planned to fully update the bus fleet.

The Nizhny Novgorod Railway Station is included into the investment program of the Directorate of Railway Stations, a branch of Russian Railways JSC. The Railway Station will be reconstructed to improve its transport security, ensure access for the disabled and other groups of people with limited mobility, to modernize its inner systems.
